Aster Davis, 73, of the Clay Hill community, passed away Wednesday morning, December 2, 1987, at the Scott County Hospital following a short illness. Mr. Davis was the son of the late Louie Davis and the late Zillah Adkins and was also preceded in death by one infant daughter, Wilma Jean Davis; one son, Joe L. Davis; one sister, Margie Belle Wright; and three brothers: Milace, Jessie Lee, and infant Denver Davis. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Clay Hill Missionary Baptist Church, and a member of Oneida American Legion Post #136. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Carmie Mae Wright Davis of the Clay Hill community; three daughters: Betty Jean Wilson of Cincinnati, O., Ruth Ann Wesley of Winfield, and Sylvia Jean Terry of Dayton, O.; two sons: Jerry Dean Davis and Edison Lee Davis of Winfield; four sisters: Hettie Bushman of Winfield, Mary Alice Neal and Lorene King of Pine Knot, Ky., and Priscilla Chambers of Oneida; one brother, Bobby Davis of Memphis; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one step-grandson; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Clay Hill Missionary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Friday, December 4, with Rev. Earl Bridges and Rev. Larry Adkins officiating. The Morris Adkins Family sang. Burial was in the Perkins Cemetery in the Pleasant Grove community. Oneida American Legion Post No. 136 was in charge of full military honors at graveside. Those serving were: Milford Burchfield, James Collins, Robert Carson, Jr., James Craig, Curtis Marcum, Lawrence Posey, Odie Posey, Bill Ed Thomas, James Thomas, and Zane Roberts, bugler. Pallbearers were: Austin Closteen, Dwayne King, Steve King, Danny King, Rick Stephens, Bruce Stephens, Ed Tate, and Mike Wesley. West-Murley Funeral Home in Oneida is in charge of the arrangements.
