CLEO DUNN ALEXANDER passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, in Duncan, Okla. She was 95.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Loco Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Southerland and the Rev. Don Hankins officiating. Burial will be in Loco Cemetery under direction of Comanche Funeral Home.
Cleo was born July 17, 1913, in Caddo, Okla., to Edgar T. and Nancy M. McEntire Dunn. She married Ivan M. "Dick" Alexander on Jan. 11, 1931, in Jefferson County. Cleo was a longtime resident of Loco before moving to Duncan in 1989. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and active in that organization while at Loco. She was also active in the 4-H Extension Club in Loco for over 25 years.
She was a member of Loco Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Cleo later joined New Hope Baptist Church West in Duncan.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grand-mother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and "Granny" to many. She will be sorely missed.
Survivors include three daughters, Rita Colman of The Colony, Texas, Peggy Odom and husband Jim of Gun Barrel City, Texas, and Nancy Jones of Moore; a daughter-in-law, Laveda Alexander of Duncan; a sister, Laverne Cloughly of Seguin, Texas; a brother, Chester Dunn and wife Ruth of Billings, Mont.; a sister-in-law, Helen Dunn of Loco; eight grand-children, Jim Alexander of Loco, Phyllis Savides and husband John of Afton, Va., Angela Chatten and husband Chris of Plano, Texas, Terry Gregory and husband Ron of The Colony, Sandra Alexander and Kelda Perkins of Duncan, Kerri Tivis of Velma, and Shawn Odom and wife Kathy of Forney, Texas; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Bill D. Alexander; brothers, Homer Dunn, Henry Dunn, Floyd Dunn, Vernon Dunn and L.J. "Buddy" Dunn; sisters, Dovie Spurgin, Gladys Wade and Ester Spurgin; great-grandsons, Joe Alexander and Michael Alexander; and great-great-grandson Jeremiah Abrams.
Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
