∼VERNON DUNN was born March 29, 1918, in Caddo, Oklahoma, to Nancy and Ed Dunn, and died on April 2, 2002, after complications from pneumonia.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Helen; his son, Vernon Dunn, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Loco; daughters, Barbara Kinder and her husband Bob of Sherman, Texas, and Carolyn Knight and her husband Deral of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; sisters, Cleo Alexander of Duncan, and Laverne Cloughly of Seguin, Texas; brothers, L.J. Dunn of DeQueen, Ark., and Chester Dunn of Billings, Mont.; grandchildren, Jennifer and Patrick Kinder, Steven and David Knight, Perry Beaird; and several great-grandchildren.
Vernon spent many years in public service; 14 years were spent as Stephens County Commissioner, and 18 years as an Oklahoma State Representative. During four of these years, he served as Majority Floor Leader in the House of Representatives. Vernon had a passion for fair play and justice and held firm to his beliefs and convictions.
He and Helen were able to devote more time after his retirement to doing what they loved best - raising quarter horses.
A memorial service was held for Vernon Dunn at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Loco.
