Bertsel E. Curtis, 95, of Happy Hollow Road, Chillicothe, died 4:56 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in Traditions of Chillicothe.

He was born September 15, 1916, in Ross County, Ohio, to the late Elwood and Grace Shoemaker Curtis. On July 3, 1936, he married the former Gladys M. Cuckler who died August 3, 2011.

Surviving are children, Janice Ray, of Chillicothe, Jim (Sue) Curtis, of Cocoa, FL, Carol (Jimmy) Gatten and Tim (Jan) Curtis, both of Chillicothe; 12 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Bob Curtis; brothers, Wallace, Ray and Leo Curtis and by a sister, Edna Cuckler.

Bertsel served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Liberty Hill Christian Union Church. He was a retired Carpenter and a member of Union Carpenters Local #4371, of Portsmouth, for 60 years. Bertsel had served as superintendant on many construction jobs in the Chillicothe area including the original Bob Evans Restaurant.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012 in the Liberty Hill Christian Union Church with Rev. Rick Hartley officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
