Funeral services for Janette Cornelius, 61, of Brownwood, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 24, in the chapel of Heartland Funeral Home with Steve Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Zephyr Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Cornelius passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Janette Reiger was born on Jan. 26, 1948, in Brownwood to Gordon Reiger and Martha Jo Stewart Reiger. She lived most of her life in Zephyr and graduated from Zephyr High School in 1966. Janette was married to Kendall Cornelius on Aug. 12, 1966, in Zephyr. She had worked for Brownwood Manufacturing for 15 years before retiring in 1992 due to health reasons. Mrs. Cornelius was a member of the Zephyr Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Kendall Cornelius of Brownwood; two daughters and their families, Kendra Bryan and husband Russ and their children, Kylie and Kaden of Pella Iowa and Krissy Posey and husband Justin and their children, Kori and Logan of Brownwood; her father, Gordon Reiger of Zephyr; and siblings, Sharon Powers and husband Johnny of Salado, Steven Reiger and wife Joyce of Brownwood, Johnny Reiger of Zephyr, and David Reiger and wife Karen of Zephyr; sisters-in-law, Myrna Wright and husband J.R. of Brownwood, Sandra Assenmacher of Abilene and Joy Cornelius of Zephyr. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha Jo; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Cornelius and Bud Assenmacher; and nephew, Steven Reiger Jr.

The highlight of her life was her grandchildren and her three trips to China to visit her daughter. She enjoyed life, working with children, raising animals and taking long nature walks. She loved the Lord and was looking forward to the peaceful rest in Heaven.
