Violet "Vi" M. Brown,86,longtime Sioux City resident,died Tuesday Aug. 27,2002,at Sioux City nursing home following a brief illness.Services will be 9:30a.m.Friday at Frist United Methodist Church,with Rev.Dr.Allen Call officiating.Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.Visitation will be today 6-8p.m. today and prayer service at 7p.m.,at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.Mrs.Brown was born Feb. 19,1916,in Alersen,North Dakota,to Frank and fern(Perrin)Coplin,at 19 she moved to Omaha.She married John Brown on Oct. 5,1943,in Omaha,Neb.They moved to Sioux City in 1946.Mr.Brown a former Sioux City detective,died Nov. 1,1992,in Sioux City.She was a waitress at the Joe Gantz Stek House in Sioux City for 25 years,then at the Top of the Hilton for three years.She retired in 1983.She was a member of Frist United Methodist Church and Sioux City Police Auxiliary.She is survived by a daughter and her husband,Fern and John Marrinan of Sioux City;a grandson Carl Turner of Sioux City;and two granddaughters,Melinda Alvarez and her two sons,Chris and Ryan,and Melanie Turner-Steele and her husband Matt and their two daughters,Alecia and Ashley,all of Sioux City.
