William Charles Coomer was the son of William Coomer and Lavisa Coomer from Stokes Co, NC. He was born in KY.
William C. Coomer fought with Company G of the 37th KY regiment of volunteers in the Civil War. He enlisted in August of 1863. His father William was in the same regiment and died in a military hospital in Lexington, KY during the war of causes not defined. He was buried in the National Cemetery in Lexington.

William C. was married to Mary Retherford of Adair Co, KY. The couple moved from KY to Pike county, IN and later to Wheeling, IN in Gibson county.

Obituary from the Princeton Clarion/News on February 4, 1914:

"WHEELING, Ind., Feb.5.--The funeral of William C. Coomer was held this morning at 10 o'clock in the M.E. church here, and was largely attended. The interment was in the Mt. Tabor cemetery.

Mr. Coomer, who was 77 years of age and one of the best known citizens of this part of the county, died Wednesday morning at 3 o'clock after a two-weeks illness of pneumonia. He was an excellent man.

Six children survive. They are: John and Thomas Coomer, of near Princeton; Mrs, Silas Myrick, Princeton; Mrs. John Fletcher, Francisco; Mrs, Jane Hitch, Mt. Carmel; Mrs. Ruby Drew, Ft. Branch."
