Asbury M. Cline, the subject of this brief sketch, was born in Ohio on the 6th day of April, 1825, and died at his home in Caldwell township, Appanoose county, November 29, 1901, age 76 years, 7 months and 23 days. He was married to Miss Margaret Davis, June 19, 1846. They were blessed with 8 children, two of whom preceded their parents to the better land. Six survive: three sons, Calvin, Madison and Enoch; three daughters: Mrs. Lucinda Caldwell, Mrs. Nancy McKeenan and Mrs. Jane Parks. All of the children were present during the father's last sickness except the daughter Jane, who lives in Colorado; the mother having passed away on the 15th day of June, 1897.

The deceased and wife came to Iowa in 1854, and located in Caldwell township, which was their home until the close of life. They fully knew the trials that are incident to the development of a new country.

The deceased united with the Christian church on the 27th day of June, 1887, and was faithful until called from labor to reward.

The funeral was from the Christian church at Exline at 11 o'clock a.m. Sunday Dec. 1, T. A. Renfro of Milton, Iowa preaching. The remains were tenderly laid to rest beside that of his companion, to await the resurrection morn. Thus passes from us an old and highly esteemed citizen, who was loved by all who knew him.
