He served with Company C of the 25th Battalion of Virginia Infantry - Richmond Local Defense Troops. He was captured at High Bridge on 6 April 1865 and taken to Point Lookout. He took the Oath of Allegiance on 24 June 1865 and was released. That paper described him as being 5 feet 9 and 1/4 inches high, with a light complexion, brown hair and grey eyes.
