She was born in Denmark on July 13, 1900, the daughter of the late Soren and Kirsten Madsen Christensen. On February 20, 1926, here in Racine, she was united in marriage to Axel Andersen who preceded her on September 8, 1982. Mrs. Andersen's life work was that of Wife, Mother, and Homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and reading in her spare time, and loved to spend time with her dear grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughter, Mildred (Alvin) Carleton of Racine; grandchildren, David (Elizabeth) Carleton of Waukesha, and Bruce Carleton of Racine; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jennifer, Andrew, and Kirsten Carleton, all of Waukesha; step-grandchildren, John (Kris) Carleton, Sue Freeze, and Jim (Cindy) Carleton; eight step-great-grandchildren; brother, Rev. John Christensen of Ludington, Mich.; special niece, Ruth (Gunnar) Sorenson of Mount Prospect, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews in Denmark.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Andersen was preceded by 10 sisters and brothers.
Funeral services will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Albert Guetzlaff officiating. Internment will follow at Mound Cemetery. All are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 until 11 a.m. Memorials to Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Friends Thru Radio Ministry, or Meals on Wheels have been suggested.
