Margaret E. Chambers Anderson was born in Pittsburgh, PA during Jun of 1835 to William Chambers and his wife Frances (Fanny) Hamilton, immigrants from Scotland. She had an older sister Fanny, widow of David Neipier/Neeper; a brother John W. Chambers; and a younger sister Mary Linton Chambers, who married J. Charles Dicken.

Pittsburgh City Directories indicate Margaret was the widow of William Anderson. They must have married about 1855-1856 as census records indicate her presumed son son William E. Anderson was born about 1857. The 1880 Census indicates Margaret was an invalid. Her son William died Feb 20, 1889. Following the death of her parents and the marriage of her niece Kate Neiper in 1896, Margaret Anderson lived with the Dicken Family according to Pittsburgh City Directories. The 1901 Will of her sister Mary Linton Chambers Dicken, makes provision for the care of Margaret. However, Margaret Anderson died in November of 1903, 4 years before Mary Dicken.
