BENJAMIN S. CENTER

WELLFORD, Dec. 21 - - Benjamin S. Center, 77, resident of Wellford, died at a Spartanburg hospital Friday at 11:50 a.m. after an extended illness.

Mr. Center was born and reared in upper Greenville County, but had been a resident of Wellford for the pas 50 years. He was a son of the late George and Nancy Center and was married to Miss Minerva Pittman, who died two years ago. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Surving are two daughters, Mrs. Irene Powell and Rolee Powell, both of Wellford; one half-brother, James Center, Central; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. J.L. Painter, the Rev. Ansel Pruitt, the Rev. Horace Chapman and the Rev. J.T. Gregory. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.

The following will meet at the Church at 2:45 to be pallbearers: Frank Foster, Broadus Cheek, Odell Turner, Joe High, W.L. Poole and Ellis Gosnell.

The following will meet at the Church at the same hour to be the honorary escort: C.W. Howe, W.A. and Andrew Johnson, J.M. Drummond, Sam Dobson, Guy Hawkins, Calvin Poole, Alfred Scoggins, E.V. Hill, Fred Robertson, Paul Gossett Sr., and E.C. King.

The body is at the Wood Mortuary. After 5 p.m. Saturday it will be at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Irene Powell, Wellford. It will be placed in the Church at 2 p.m. Sunday.
