Lettie Lee Carson of La Junta, passed away surrounded by her loving family on October 28, 2014. She was born October 18, 1928 in La Junta, Colorado to William Norton and Lena Belle (Sharp) Romans. She grew up in La Junta and graduated with the La Junta High School class of 1946. Following graduation, she worked as a switchboard operator for the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company in La Junta.

On January 7, 1956 she married Jess Carson in La Junta. Upon their marriage, she became a homemaker and raised her family of six children and nurtured their families. Besides her top priority, her family, Mrs. Carson gave of herself to her church and community in such roles as a volunteer at the St. Matthew’s Catholic School, Sidney, MT, and in La Junta as a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Catholic Parish’s Circle 4, at the nursing home masses, and counting mass collections. She also volunteered with the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center’s Hospital Auxiliary and for the social events at the local nursing home.

She is survived by daughters Letitia Carson of Christiansburg, VA and Ruth (Jeff) Covert of Greenwood, IN; sons John Carson, Charles (Monica) Carson, Joe (Terri) Carson, and Jim (Debbie) Carson, all of La Junta; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Mrs. Carson was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lena Belle Romans, her husband, Jess Carson, sister Ollie Bender and brother Walter Romans.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arkansas Valley Hospice, P.O. Box 408, La Junta, CO, 81050 directly or through the funeral home office.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Church on Friday, October 31 at 10 AM with Father Matthew Wertin officiating. Interment will follow at the Higbee Cemetery.
