Gainesville, Texas - WALTER ALVIN ROMANS, 92, of Gainesville, Texas, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008, in Chisholm Trail Retirement Community, Duncan, Okla.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Clement-Keel Funeral Home in Gainesville, with the Rev. Hollis Parsons, the Rev. Mark Jones, the Rev. J.W. Idell and the Rev. Matthew West officiating.
Walter was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Cumby, Texas, the son of William Norton and Lena Belle Sharp Romans. He and Irene Connaly were married May 4, 1940, in LaJunta, Colo. She preceded him in death Jan. 13, 1952, and to this union two daughters, Neva and Sonja, were born. On April 1, 1961, he married Emma Pierce at LaJunta. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2005.
He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad on Dec. 1, 1976, where he had worked as a carman for 36 years. He moved to Duncan in April of 2008 to be near his daughter. He was a member of Eastside Nazarene Church in Gainesville, and was a member of the Ex-Rails, a group of former railroad employees.
Survivors include two daughters, Neva Belle West and her husband Paul of Kimberly, Idaho, and Sonja Irene Wilson and her husband Jeffry of Duncan; four stepsons, Wayne Pierce of Search Light, Nev., Wilbur Pierce of Fowler, Colo., Bobby Pierce of Grand Junction, Colo., and Paul Pierce of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lettie Lee Carson of LaJunta.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and two great-grandsons.
