Andrew was born on November 11, 1945, in Gallup, NM.
Andrew graduated from Gallup High School in 1964 and was employed with the Pepsi Cola Company during his high school years. Andrew attended Denver Drafting School.
In 1965, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After the Vietnam War he returned to Gallup, NM.
Andrew worked for the United States Postal Service, was a certified EMT Instructor and was employed with the Gallup Fire Department and retired as Fire Marshal.
Andrew then returned to work for the City of Gallup as a Code Compliance Inspector.
Andrew was a member of the Gallup Lions Club, V.F.W., Knights of Columbus, Board Member for the Gallup Community Service Center, Board Member for the NM Mid West Cap, Red Rock Chapter of A.B.A.T.E., Sundace Iron Riders and a past member of the BPOE Elks Lodge #1440.
Andrew was an avid umpire for all Gallup Baseball Leagues, and enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, ballooning for the Extreme Lee Chase Crew and Old Timers Baseball.
Andrew's favorite past time was being Santa Claus for over 30 years making many little kids believe Santa Claus was real.
Andrew is survived by his sons, Ryan Carabajal of Albuquerque, NM, Denie Ray Kiger of Mississippi and KC Carabajal of Gallup, NM, daughters, Holly Carabajal of Albuquerque, NM and Keia Carabajal of Gallup, NM, brothers, Freddie Carabajal, John Carabajal, Tommy Gonzáles and Michael Molina, all of Gallup, NM sisters, Christine Carabajal, Sara Steadman of Gallup, NM and Mary Ann Carabajal of Scottsdale, AZ and five grandchildren.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Pauline Carabajal, daughter, Christy Ann Carabajal and brother, Edward Cabrera.
Services for Andrew will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. The Rev. Matthew Keller will officiate. Burial will be on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., tonight, September 16, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Pallbearers will be Tom Trujillo, Dan Díaz, Fred Castillo, Ephren Landavazo, Bill Martínez, Michael Lovato, Gene Pacheco and Kenny Carabajal Sr.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Knights of Columbus Hall immediately following rosary and the church services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Service Center, 1130 Hassler Valley Rd. or RMCH Hospice of Gallup, 640 Vanden Bosch Parkway, Gallup, NM 87301.
