The former Mary Bruce was born on September 12, 1871, in Milwaukee, and was married to Joseph Bertz on April 7, 1890, at Hartford. In 1895, they moved to Loyal where they lived ever since. She was a member of St. Anthony’s church, the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Mary’s Altar Society.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Frances) Stone of Sarasota, Fla., Mrs. Alfred (Alice) Haas of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. R. W. (Evelyn) Eggerstad of Skokie, Ill., Mrs. R. W. (Gywen) Strathman of Colby; five sons, Ruben Bertz of Greenwood, Harold Bertz of Loyal, Leo Bertz of Pembine, Jerome Bertz of Loyal; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Bruce of Hartford and several grand children and great grand children. Her husband, two sons and one daughter preceded her in death.
