Eleanor Brockenbrough was born in Lafayette in 1880 and died in Lafayette in 1938. She was raised in a house at 6th and Cincinnati Streets in Lafayette, where the YWCA of Greater Lafayette stands today. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Eric Pope School in Boston. She was attracted to Gloucester, Massachusetts, for its "picturesque" subject matter and is said to have spent several summers there at the Ferguson Art Colony in the 1920s. Returning to Lafayette, she served as the first woman Board President of the Lafayette Art Center in 1929.

Brockenbrough showed an independent spirit in traveling to the East coast and Saugatuck, Michigan, on painting trips. She was also known for her pastel portraits of Lafayette's residents - especially children. Her works are in public and private collections in Lafayette, including the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette and Purdue University. The Fort Wayne Museum of Art awarded a purchase prize for her work, "Drying Nets," in 1938. She was invited to exhibit in the Hoosier Salon from 1925 - 1931.
