Joyce attended Rumford schools and graduated from Cony High School in 1944.
She met the love of her life, Vernon Boynton, when they both worked at Herrick's in Augusta. They were married on their birthdays, Feb. 8, in 1947. Joyce was married to Vernon for 51 years until his death April 16, 1998.
After raising a family of five children, she went to work for the Maine Department of Human Services. She retired from the State after 20 years of service. After her retirement, she and her husband spent summers at First Roach Pond in Greenville.
After the death of her husband, she kept busy by volunteering her time at the China Primary School where many of the children knew her as "Gram." She also volunteered at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife's Bolton Hill Facility, where she was loved by all the wardens, rangers and marine patrol officers whom she helped to outfit.
Joyce was a member of Boynton Webber Post No. 179 American Legion Auxiliary of South China. She was also a member of the South China Fellowship Church.
In addition to her husband, Joyce was predeceased by a sister, Priscilla Newnam, and a son-in-law, Daniel Kennedy.
Surviving is a son, Peter Boynton, and his wife, Pauline, of Gardiner; four daughters, Paula Campbell and her husband, Michael, of Chelsea, Melinda McKay and her companion, Ed Freeman, of Chelsea, Stephanie Higgins and her husband, David, of Winslow and Felicia Kennedy and her companion, Russ Bragg, of South China; a sister, Joan McPherson of Hallowell; 17 grandchildren, and she was also blessed with great-grandchildren and some special nieces who were very supportive to Joyce and her family.
