Vernon Edward Bowers
1932 - 2013
Vernon Bowers, 81, of Boise, Idaho passed away on July 23,2013 at Emerson House of Alzheimer's disease. He was born on April 25, 1932 to Edward M. Bowers and Isabelle Lewis Bowers in Payette, Idaho. His early years were spent in Payette, Weiser, and in California. He graduated from Nampa High School in 1949. Vernon served in the Air Force for 10 years and was a veteran of the Korean War. He married Patty Fisher, his forever love, of Coming, Ohio in May, 1953 and convinced her to move out West to Idaho. They just celebrated their 60th year together May 2, 2013.
Returning to school, Vernon graduated with high honors from Boise Junior College in the Drafting and Design Program in June, 1963. He then worked for the Bureau of Reclamation as an Illustrator/Draftsman from 1963 to 1983 when he retired.
Vernon enjoyed traveling, fishing, hiking, and camping. He and Patty were able to travel more and for longer periods after he retired. A dedicated family man, he enjoyed family barbecues along with the requisite, lively croquet games. His hobbies were photography, gardening (roses especially), tinkering with cars, and redesigning travel trailers.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Patty of Boise, Idaho; his daughters: Dawn (John) Briggs of Boise, Idaho; and Laurie (Brian) Ancell of Woodinville, Washington; his son, Joel Bowers of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren: John Vernon (Aubry) Briggs; Sarah (Steve) Perry; Kimberly Ancell; and Jacob Ancell; his half-sister, Miriam Navin of Salem, Oregon; his brother, Keith (Janis) Bowers of Aurora, Colorado; his sister, Karen Barnet of Boise, Idaho; his very good friend, Earl Clark; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents; his two half-sisters, Bernice Foltz of Louisville, Kentucky, and Betty Chapman of Nampa, Idaho; his sister, Lee Anne Merritt of Boise, Idaho; and his nephew, Bill Chapman of Nampa, Idaho.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of the staff at Emerson House and XL Hospice for their loving care of Vernon. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in his honor is suggested. There will be no funeral services as per Vernon's request.
A celebration of his life with family, neighbors, and friends is planned for a later date. Vernon's strength, determination, and love of family will live on in those he loved most.
