WaKeeney -- Mary Elizabeth Riedel, 93, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital. She was born June 22, 1908, in Trego County to Frank and Christina (Lutz) Bongartz.

She married Barney Riedel on Aug. 28, 1928, in Ellis. He died July 2, 1989.

She attended Trego County rural school. She was a homemaker and lifelong Trego County resident. She was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church, Altar Society and Young Matrons Club, WaKeeney, and Daughters of Isabella, Ellis.

Survivors include a son, Gerald, Oshkosh, Neb.; four daughters, Edna Mae Deines, Wilma Silkman and Mary Jo Clevenger, all of WaKeeney, and Donna Sanders, Polo, Mo.; a brother, Frank Bongartz, Ellis; 31 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Donald, a daughter, Louise Parke, two brothers, William and Joseph Bongartz, and three sisters, Annie Kuppetz, Helen Massier and Christina Crawford.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Christ the King Catholic Church, WaKeeney, with Father Donald F. Pfannenstiel officiating; burial in the St. Mary Cemetery, Ellis. Visitation will be until 8:30 p.m. today at the Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. A wake will be at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the hospital endowment fund.
