Statesboro, Ga. - Mrs. Emogene Rushing Bland, 84, died Tuesday, July 28, in Statesboro. A native of Bulloch County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lessie Waters Rushing. Mrs. Bland was a longtime member of Temple Hill Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School secretary. Married to James Floyd Bland Sr. for over 62 years prior to his death in 2004, she worked side-by-side with her husband on the family farm. A devoted wife and mother, she dedicated her life to her family. She was a homemaker, a talented seamstress and cook and an outstanding gardener. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and the entire Middleground Community. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bland was also preceded in death by her brothers, Curtis Rushing, Herman Rushing and Durrell Rushing; and her great-grandson, Henry L. Durden IV.

Survivors include her three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Judith Bland, Rochel and Frankie Bland and Gary and Marsha Bland; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Sammy Cato and Judy and Charles Bragg; nine grandchildren, Cindy Durden, Brian Bland, Connie Clark, Joey Bland, Hollie Pryor, Jennifer Bland, Melissa Sack, Wendy Faris and Wayne Bragg; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Virginia Skinner; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Carlton Hendrix officiating. Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
