James W. Bishop, 44, Local Business Takes Own Life
James William Bishop, 44, prominent local automobile dealer, took his own life at his father's farm at Grampian about 3:30 yesterday afternoon with a .32 calibre revolver.
Mr. Bishop had been in ill health for some time, and had been taken to the farm by his wife early yesterday afternoon, where he was to remain for a few days of rest. Not long after his arrival he asked his mother for a pillow and blanket so that he could go to the woods and relax.
When the hour for the evening meal approached and he had not returned, his mother went out to call him. She found him lying on the blanket, a slug from the revolver having entered his head. Dr. E. S. Erhard, county coroner, was called and upon examination found that the fatal wound had been self-inflicted.
Mr. Bishop was born at Ringtown, Pa., May 26, 1900. For about 14 years of his adult life he was employed by Riter & Co., New York investment banker in their Wall street office. During most of that time he lived East Orange, N.J.
In 1936 he married the former Ruth Peterson of Clearfield. They lived in East Orange and later South Orange, later coming to Clearfield in 1940, when Mr. Bishop opened a local office for Riter & Co. ?? in Clearfield he entered the automobile business in which he was engaged at the time of his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and the ? Lodge.
In addition to his wife his is survived by a daughter, ?, and a son William Alexander Bishop, ?
Funeral service will be held from the Leavy Funeral Home Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Roy E. Hauser, D.D. officiating. Interment in the Crown Crest Memorial Park.
