Arthur E. Betts, Retired Furrier Dies at Age 72

Arthur E. Betts, 72, of 1137 91/2 Avenue, S.E., a retired Rochester furrier, died of emphysema Saturday at Memorial Hospital in Lawton, OK. He was wintering at the home of his daughter.
He was born Oct. 27, 1905, in Dubuque, Iowa, and married Elinor Gallup on Dec. 31, 1931, in Elgin, Illinois. They moved to Rochester in 1936, and Mr. Betts worked in Lawler's fur department for 18 years. he then purchased the former Conrad Store at 112 First Avenue S.W. in 1952 and changed the name to Betts Furs. The firm moved to the Lawler Building in 1963 and then to the Sheraton Hotel in 1969, which he operated until retiring last year. Mrs. Betts died in December 1962.
Survivors include two daughters, Billie, and Linda; a son Leigh; and 14 grandchildren; and two brothers, Victor and Jim.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter and a brother.
The funeral is 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Jameson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday and until noon Wednesday at Ranfranz Funeral Home and then at the church an hour before service. There will be no reviewal.
