July 31, 1929 – Jan. 17, 2014

Harry E. Bennett, 84, Tyrone, died Friday at Tyrone Hospital.

He was born in Altoona and was raised by his foster mother, Lucy E. Primus. He married Dolores Alexander on April 25, 1953.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years; two daughters: Brenda Fox and Cynthia B. Johnston (Michael G.); three grandchildren: Bennett E. Fox, Cynthia D. Brown and LeeAnn Fox, all of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Harriet A. Macklin of Donora; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Harry served in combat with the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division in the Korean War. He retired from PPG Industries in Tipton and previously had worked at the Tyrone Wastewater Treatment Plant. He was of the Methodist faith and was an organ donor.

Harry was a member and past commander of VFW Post 4559 and a member of American Legion Post 281. He was a dedicated member of the Tyrone Honor Guard and received the WTRN Outstanding Citizen Award in July 2005.

Friends will be received from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, the Rev. Norman E. Huff officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Tyrone Honor Guard. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
