Born April 6, 1929, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late James L. Bennett Sr. and Annie E. Grubbs Bennett.
He was employed by Mack Trucks Inc. for 29 years, retiring in 1987.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Local Union 171 U.A.W. and American Legion, Funkstown Post 211.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean Bennett; two stepdaughters, Clara Jamison of Hagerstown and Carol A. Lamar of Phenix City, Ala.; one stepson, Carl W. Sprankle Jr. of Hagerstown; eight stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Virginia Keedy, Madeline O'Connor, Ella Keedy, Jane Hersberger and Betty Leathers, and four brothers, Chester Bennett, Clarence Bennett, Paul Bennett and James Bennett Jr.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
