BENDER, Ruby Edith Passed away peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Grand River Hospital, K-W Health Centre, Kitchener. Ruby resided in New Hamburg and was born 88 years ago in East Zorra Township. She was the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Susanna (Brenneman) Zehr. Beloved wife of the late Alvin R. Bender who predeceased her October 14, 2001. Loving mother of Elva Poole of Campbell River, B.C., Ron and Cindy Bender of R.R. # 1 New Hamburg, Shirley and Neil Dunford, Wayne and Audrey Bender all of New Hamburg, Joyce and Wayne Jantzi of Wellesley, Clare and Anne Bender of London, Ken and Beth Bender, Tim and Donna Bender all of New Hamburg. Sadly missed by her 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Kay Sommers of Stratford and Mabel Shantz of New Hamburg. Also remembered by her sisters-in-law Ada Zehr of New Hamburg and Marilyn Zehr of Woodstock. Ruby was predeceased by her sister Emma and Sidney Everett, brothers Lloyd and Grace Zehr, Oliver Zehr, Arnold and Carol Zehr and brothers-in-law Wesley Sommers, Arley Shantz and Willis Roi. Ruby was a member of Hillcrest Mennonite Church, New Hamburg where she was a former member of the WMSC. She cross stitched quilt tops for the Mennonite Relief Sale and previously volunteered at the Self Help Shop, New Hamburg. She was a former member of the Sunshine Club, Haysville and the Wilmot Horticultural Society. Ruby treasured her time with family and friends. Family and friends may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home , 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Sunday, November 14, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The interment will take place on Monday, November 15, 2010 at the 19th Line Mennonite Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Mennonite Church, New Hamburg with Pastor Jan Steckley officiating. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of one's choice.
