He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late William Grier and Emma Jane Cobb Beattie.
He was an active member of Sunnyside Baptist Church for 49 years and was a loving husband and father.
SURVIVORS: Wife of 64 years, Helen Randolph Beattie; sons, Truett Gerald Beattie and David Lee Beattie, both of Bessemer City, Martin Marshall Beattie and wife Laverne of Bessemer City; daughters, Barbara Routhier and husband Al of Bessemer City, Dianna B. Absher and husband Clyde of Gastonia; sisters, Catherine B. Helms and husband Arnold of Charlotte, Ruth B. Norton of Raleigh; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren
