Verna Lee Beall, 90, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015. She was born in Dogtown, Texas on March 21, 1925 to Robert Bentley Johnson and Martha Ivy Pitts Johnson. Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Beall on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 12:00 PM at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Sonny Scarborough officiating. Interment will be at Alazan Cemetery on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 3:00 PM. Verna was born to a large family consisting of six siblings. She grew up in the Alazan area, and attended Alazan School, and then Harmony School. Because of circumstances right before her last year in school, she had to quit and go to work for the school cafeteria. It was soon after, that she met Earnest Beall. One day while in town, she noticed Earnest playing guitar on the courthouse steps; from that day forward they were always together. Earnest and Verna were married on June 17, 1944, and soon began a beautiful family. In 1952 they moved to Houston, this is where they raised their four young children. Thirty three years later in 1985 they decided to move back to Nacogdoches where they lived the rest of their lives together until the passing of Earnest in 2004. Verna enjoyed reading, and cooking. Her favorite meals to make were the country dishes, especially anything that was old fashioned, like cornbread and peas. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was an excellent homemaker that always put her family’s needs before her own. She was always known as Oma to all her grandkids, which she loved dearly. Verna was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in the 1980’s. Pallbearers for Verna Lee will be Terry Martin, Robbie Beall, Jamie Beall, Troy Antley, Butch Abel, Gary Sutch, Rusty Allen and Buck Gleitsmann. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Fielder and Jimmy Phillips. Mrs. Beall is survived by her sons: Eddie L. Beall and wife, Brenda, and Tommy B.
