English Kendall Beachum (who appears to have changed his name to Edward sometime in the 1920s) was a son of Zachary Taylor Beachum (1854-1926) and his wife Emma Amanda Steen (1858-1937). He was born in Anson County, NC, but the family moved to South Carolina in the 1880s.

He married Belle Wansley (1884-1973) sometime in the early 1910s. She was a daughter of Andrew Richmond Wansley and his wife Lucy Jane Smith, of Elbert County, Georgia. E. K. and Belle were living in Lowell, Gaston Co., NC from at least 1915 through 1930. Sometime after that, they came back to Georgia and lived at Elberton.

They had five children: Edward Kendall Beacham (1915-1997, US Army, WW II, lived in Athens, Georgia), Herman Wansley "Dude" Beachum (1916-1998, Msgt. USAF, WW II & Korea, lived at Irondale, Ala.), Marian Smith "Tip" Beacham (1919-2002, Mrs. Vaughn, lived at Birmingham, Ala.), Wilma Beacham (Mrs. Howard Sanders, living) and James Reid Beachum (1923-2001, Msgt. USAF, WW II, lived at Portsmouth, Virginia).
