He married Glenn Lucas (1883-1981) on 24 Jul 1903 in Sullivan County, Indiana. She was a daughter of William H. and Lucinda (Leach) Lucas.

The couple raised 3 boys who each attended service academies. John graduated from the Naval Academy in 1923 while Frederic completed his naval training there in June, 1942. Harold L. Bays graduated from West Point in 1931.
