BAYLOR, William Barksdale, age 86, died January 14, 2014 at home in Richmond, after a full and enjoyable life. He was born October 8, 1927 in Richmond, VA. Bill graduated Thomas Jefferson High School in 1943, attended RPI for two years, then served (1945 to 1947) in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Special Services Division, water purification engineering. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1952. At UVA, he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma, Eli Banana, Skull and Keys, Phi Delta Epsilon; Vice-President of the Young Democratic Club; 1951 Business Manager of Corks & Curls; Member Corporation W.U.V.A.; O.D.K. Counselor. Bill's first enterprise was at age 10 in 1938, editor, publisher and owner of The Bulletin, a Ginter Park neighborhood newspaper of note. From 1952 to 1961, he was an account supervisor and international Ad Man for numerous major brand accounts at J. Walter Thompson Advertising headquarters in New York. In that field he enjoyed numerous job assignments in America and ones abroad in Geneva, Frankfurt, London and a memorable two-year stay in Bombay, India. In 1962, he started W.B. Baylor & Co., a sports facility design and construction business concentrated mostly in the North East. He was meticulous and successful in this work until retirement. Bill especially enjoyed renovating and constantly maintaining his real estate in Richmond. He was interested in all forms of construction, building materials, design and architectural elements. Among his personal interests were photography, automobiles, dancing, cooking, humor and people. He loved music, especially Jazz, and was a casual and enthusiastic piano player. He possessed a charming and friendly personality, sweet disposition, a diverse knowledge of interesting subjects as well as minutia, a beautiful smile and easy laughter. He was always young in body, mind and spirit. An only child, he was predeceased by his parents, Bernard Hoskins Baylor and Anne Barksdale Baylor of Richmond. Surviving are his loving wife, Elizabeth Herring Baylor; his four children and their spouses from his first marriage to Margaret M. Burchenal of Cincinnati, Ohio, William B. Baylor Jr. and wife, Dena, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Charles Burchenal Baylor and wife, Tracie, of Seattle, Wash., Courtenay Baylor Coleman and husband, Jesse, of New Canaan, Conn. and Margot Baylor Milburn and husband, Kristar, of Olympia, Wash.; and five grandchildren. The family acknowledges their deep appreciation of his dedicated home care nurses, Kevin, Carrie, Marchelle, Dee, and Kendall. The funeral will be at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21. Burial private.
