WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Paul D. Bayer, 66, of 10329 Wharf Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000 at his home.

Born Oct. 26, 1933, in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late Daniel G. and Rachel Garber Bayer.

He was a 1951 graduate of Smithsburg High School.

He worked in construction for 37 years, as a self-employed carpenter and for various constractors. Prior to retiring in 1995, he worked for Gene Bayer Contractors for eight years.

He was a member of Old German Baptist Church, Antietam Congregation, near Waynesboro.

He was a member of Pennsylvania Builders Association.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann Rohrer Bayer, whom he married April 20, 1956; four daughters, Susan M. Jamison of Oakdale, Calif., Shirley J. Bayer of Hagerstown, Diane L. Mohler of Covington, Ohio, and Janet E. Hess of Chambersburg, Pa.; one son, Vernon C. Bayer of Waynesboro; five sisters, Elizabeth Bayer, Julie Benedict and Esther Bayer, all of Waynesboro, Nora Boone of Rocky Mount, Va., and Frances King of Hagerstown; five brothers, John Bayer of Chambersburg, Harlan Bayer of Waynesboro, Daniel Bayer of Roanoke, Va., Samuel Bayer of Hagerstown, and Kenneth Bayer of Wirtz, Va.; 12 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Bayer.

Services will be Friday at 9 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro, for the family, and at 10 a.m. Friday at Old German Baptist Church, Antietam Congregation, off Pa. 316 near Waynesboro. Ministers Willis Hess, George Mason, Alfred Brubaker and Daren Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers.
