Vermilion Co, Il. - August 1944: Brother Dies At Champaign Monday: James A Battershell, 76, of Champaign, brother of E H Battershell of Rossville, died at 1:45 pm Monday, August 14, 1944 at the Burnham City Hospital in Champaign, following an eight months illness. Mr Battershell was a former implement and automobile dealer at Henning and was well known in this community. He was born September 1, 1867 in Winchester, Kentucky, the son of Simpson and Mary Battershell. Surviving are a foster daughter, Mrs Mildred Morris,LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and the following sisters and brothers; Mrs Anna Baril,Champaign, Mrs Sylvia Lewis,Champaign, Fred Battershell, Champaign, Charles Battershell, Pocahontas, Iowa, Sam Battershell, Los Angeles, California, William Battershell of Danville, Edward Battershell of Bird Island, Minnesota, and E H Battershell of Rossville. Funeral services were held at the Henning Church of Christ at 2:30 pm Wednesday with the Rev John Ferguson officiating. Burial was in the Potomac Cemetery. Attending the services from Rossville were Mr and Mrs E H Battershell, Mrs Gladys Miller, Mrs Clifton Deck, Mr and Mrs W E Robert and Mrs John Crays.
