ORONO - Collin P. Bates, 19, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009. He was born April 24, 1990, in Bangor, the son of Peter and Constance (Smith) Bates. Collin graduated from Orono High School in 2008. He attended the University of Maine and planned on joining the Marine Corps this fall. Collin was very passionate about everything he was involved in, especially football. He had the most fabulous sense of humor and always brought smiles to everyone's faces. Collin had a big appetite and could down McDonald's cheeseburgers like nobody's business. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, football, track and playing fetch with Sophie. Collin always had a zest for life and he always made every day count. He made each day he was with us seem more like a blessing than a right. In addition to his parents, Collin is survived by two sisters, Jessica Elizabeth Bates and Alyssa Marie Bates; grandparents, Ronald and Joan Smith of West Lawn, Pa., and Wesley and Carmella Bates of Benedicta; aunts and uncles, Fred Bates, Michelle Klam and her husband, Dorian, Erin Letourneau and her husband, Stephen, Michael Smith and his wife, Gemma, and Steven Smith and his wife, Elaine; 11 cousins; and all his "buds" from Orono High.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at Resurrection of the Lord Parish, St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 89 Main St., Orono. Interment will be afterward at Riverside Cemetery, Bennoch Road, Orono. (Bangor Daily News 9/12/2009)
