Diane Maxine Nelden Barton passed away February 11, 2016, in the loving company of her sons Richard Chase, Brian Barton and Scott Roy Barton and his wife Terri. She was born on December 21, 1932 to Lawrence Charles Nelden and Maxine Papworth in Salt Lake City. Diane was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lawrence Charles Nelden Jr. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Linda Nelden, and a niece and a nephew.

Diane loved music. She was a skilled pianist and sang in a variety of choirs. She also enjoyed skiing, dancing and working as a fashion model. She majored in music while attending the University of Utah and completed her BA in Music at Westminster College. She obtained her RN from Holy Cross School of Nursing. She worked as a psychiatric nurse before traveling throughout the country as a nursing consultant for several companies. For many years, Diane was the Vice President at Intermountain Healthcare over Quality Assurance. She also worked as the nursing supervisor at several care centers throughout the Salt Lake Valley. In her retirement, she still found time to serve as a nursing expert on pre-litigation panels until November of 2015.

There was nothing Diane loved more than her family and taking care of them. She gave wise advice and overflowing bags of groceries to her children and grandchildren. Diane’s heart was filled with compassion and generosity as she nurtured those outside of her family as well. In her later years, she returned to the faith of her childhood. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she entered the temple for the first time at the age of 74 and then performed ordinance work for her parents and family. She also loved serving in the Relief Society.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Little Cottonwood 5th Ward, 6350 South Rodeo Lane, 84121 with a viewing from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Sandy.
