Attended grade school at Miller; left home at age of 15, was a farm hand, eventually ended up in Rexburg, Idaho working on a wheat ranch.
Military: US Army, 1937-1945, US Army, Pearl Harbor survivor; was stationed at Schofield Barracks with "A" Company, 804th Aviation Engineers on December 7, 1941, when Pearl Harbor was attacked; continued to serve in the Pacific including the invasion of Saipan and Okinawa; was discharged September 1945.
Worked for the Pearl Harbor Police Department as a Criminal Investigator.
Married: May 7, 1946 to Patricia Weber in Honolulu, after her discharge from US Navy.
Moved to Nampa, Idaho in 1951; worked for the Nampa Police Department; was promoted to Chief Of Police in 1957; retired in 1978; was instrumental in establishing the Idaho Peace Officers Training Academy.
Moved to Forest Grove, Oregon, in 1996 to be near children
Activities: enjoyed wood working, fishing, and gardening; was proud of his grafted fruit trees.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Barbara Werts of Hillsboro, Oregon; Beth Fechter, of Forest Grove, Oregon; a son Bill Baker and wife Cheryl of Rainier, Oregon; eight grand children; and eight great-grand children.
Was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Pamela Ann.
