He was listed as 5'7", with a fair complexion, blue eyes, sandy hair and gave his occupation as farmer upon enlistment. He served with the 15th New York Heavy Artillery throughout the campaigns of 1864-1865; and was mustered out with his company on August 22, 1865, at Washington, D.C.
