Della Alleen Bybee Baker passed away August 7, 2012, completing a full and rich life.
Della was born April 8, 1909 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a daughter of Charles Eugene Bybee and Edna Dean Brown. She married her high school sweetheart, George Myron "Mike" Baker in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on January 18, 1928.
Della and George began their married life in Loveland, Colorado, then lived in Stockton, Fresno, Porterville, and Walnut Creek, California while they reared their family. They then established homes in Anaheim, California, and Salt Lake City.
Later as a widow, Della moved to Fallbrook, California to be near her daughter Doreen. Della, a strong, vibrant, intelligent woman, has been a devout and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her long and active life-a truly elect lady. Della served faithfully in many callings. She was at her husband's side as he inaugurated and presided over the Pennsylvania Mission 1970-1973, then as Director of the St. George LDS Temple Visitor Center in St. George Utah 1978-1979. Della was an ardent student of the scriptures. She had an unwavering testimony of the Gospel and love for her Savior, and she served devotedly for 10 years in a favorite calling as Gospel Doctrine teacher until she was 91 years of age.
Della had a remarkable zest for life. From her first job in a flower shop in Loveland, Colorado as a newlywed, she loved flowers and plants. She said on a gloomy day, a trip to a plant nursery would brighten her spirits immeasurably. She and George became avid antique collectors in the early years of their marriage. She loved telling how in the 1930's, they stopped in Nauvoo on a trip and were shown a barn full of treasures left behind when the Saints fled to Utah. She brought home a lamp from that barn. Della's beautiful homes were always noted for her trademark good taste and style. They were happy gathering places for many loved ones and friends throughout the years. She loved traveling throughout her adult life, especially with her husband to Europe numerous times, and many areas of the United States. Trips to India, Russia, China, Greece and Spain were highlights in her later life.
Della was intensely proud of her pioneer family ancestry, and she loved her family very much.
She is survived by her children Doreen Annette Blank (Edward) of Fallbrook, California; Jillaine Kay Hadfield (Lamont) of Salt Lake City, and George Myron II (Nola McMullin) of Payson. Known as Momgie by grandchildren and many others, she is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Della was preceded in death by her husband in 1983, and her first-born daughter Dixee Ann Meeks in 1965, four infant granddaughters, one grandson, two infant great-grandsons, and two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 621 Stage Coach Lane, Fallbrook, California Thursday, August 16th, where friends may call for viewing Thursday 9-11 a.m. before the service at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette, California. Berry-Ball & Hall Mortuary in Fallbrook, California is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-saints Missionary Fund or the Perpetual Education Fund.
