Elsie Ray Ayers Bailey, 87, of Madison Heights, departed this earthly life Monday, December 8, 2014 at Lynchburg General Hospital.Born September 16, 1927 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Luther James Ayers Sr. and Flossie Ayers Bailey; and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Luther Ayers Jr. and Buddy Ayers; a sister, Peggy Blankenship; a granddaughter, Amanda Nicole Bailey and a grandson, Christopher Seals-McDaniel.Elsie was a long time resident of Lynchburg and was retired from the Lynchburg Cotton Mill. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.Elsie is survived by her former husband, Richard M. Bailey of Amherst; two daughters, Linda G. McDaniel of Madison Heights, and Brenda J. Hudson of Lynchburg; two sons, Richard L. Bailey and wife, Deborah, of Woodbridge, and James M. Bailey of Madison Heights; a brother, Gene P. Ayers Sr. and wife, Wanda, of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, George L. McDaniel of Lynchburg, Billy R. McDaniel of Forest, Frank T. Hudson of Lynchburg, Michaela McMillon and husband, Ashley, of Lynchburg, Stephanie Bailey Flores and husband, Kevin, of Woodbridge, and Jacqueline R. Bailey of Arlington; and many great grandchildren, nephews and nieces."Nannie" was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and mentor to many friends and family, who devoted her life to helping others. She will be greatly missed.A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Bill Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Presbyterian Cemetery.
