Rev. Alvie Ash, 83, of Puxico died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at John Cochran V.A. Medical Center in St. Louis.
Rev. Ash was born Jan. 15, 1926, in LaValle. He was an Assembly of God ordained minister since April 17, 1978. He had served as pastor locally in Egypt, Puxico, Fisk, Broseley, Bell City and Vanduser. He moved to Puxico in 1961 from St. Louis. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Rev. Ash served in World War II and had received the Purple Heart. Retired, he was a self-employed construction worker.
On May 15, 1948, he married Virginia Curtis at Piggott, Ark, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Rev. Lynn Ash of Dexter; two daughters, Debbie Ash of Puxico and Cathy Manchan of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Melvin Ash of St. Louis; four sisters, Opal Johnson of Taft, Calif., Fredia Hite of Overland, Shirley Groves of Minneapolis, Minn., and Lula Hueppauff of Caruthersville; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation began at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Morgan-Sifford Funeral Home in Puxico.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at the funeral home with the Revs. Lynn Ash and Ron Helton officiating.
Interment followed at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
