Norma Rose Artz, age 90, and resident of Dewey, Oklahoma, passed away in the Heritage Villa Nursing Center, Bartlesville.

Norma Rose Smith was born June 17, 1924 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of William Shaftner Smith and Rose Marie (Bordeaux) Smith. She grew up in the Pawhuska, Oklahoma area.

Norma and Gayle William Artz were united in marriage in Pawhuska on April 9, 1950. She and Gayle moved to Dewey where she has lived since that time. Gayle preceded her in death on March 27, 2012. Norma continued her residence in Dewey up until recently when she became a resident of the Heritage Villa Nursing Center.

Norma was a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Dewey. During her lifetime, she was very active, in the church’s Altar Society, Church Choir, and Wednesday Ladies Bible Study Group. She had also worked part-time in Dr. Vansant’s office in Dewey. She enjoyed baking, raising plants, playing bingo and also reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gayle; her son, John W. Artz in 2010; and five brothers and three sisters, Lloyd Smith, Eugene Smith, James Smith, Roger Smith, Tommy Smith, Beverly Smith Clerico, Alma Smith Kallenburger and Alice Smith Janitz.

She is survived by her children, Paula K. Artz and her husband, Donald, of Dewey; Dan S. Artz and his spouse, Jason Yocum, of Las Vegas, Nevada; Gary A. Artz and his fiancée, Fawn Burchett, of Dewey; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Artz, surviving spouse of John Artz; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Donald Smith and spouse, Sallae, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Kay Smith, spouse, survivor of James, of Tupelo, Oklahoma, Lucille Smith, spouse, survivor of Eugene, of Pawhuska, Harry Kallenburger, spouse, survivor of Alma, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and John Clerico, spouse, survivor of Beverly, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and her lifelong friend, Patricia Adams of Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

A Rosary will be held on Thursday, June 18, at 7:00 PM, in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Dewey.

Services will be held on Friday, June 19, at 10:00 AM, also in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
