Robert Earl Arnold, lifelong resident of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013, two days before his 89th birthday. Robert was born in Excelsior Springs, Mo., on October 14, 1924 to John Lewis Arnold and Susan Emily (Burke) Arnold. Robert married Lola Grace Hale in February 1951.


Robert graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1942. He served in the US Army from February 1943 to February 1946. He was a member of the 187th Combat Engineer Battalion serving in Europe. Robert was also a long time member of Pisgah Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lola of the home. Robert is also survived by daughter, Brenda (Philip) Brown of Ottumwa, Iowa; four sons, Rodney (Theresa) Arnold, Roy Arnold, Joe (Pam) Arnold, all of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Paul (Donna) Arnold of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Kim Arnold of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; 17 grandchildren, Lisa Langgin, Matthew Brown, Hannah Abbott, Jonathan Brown, Jill McRorey, Greg Arnold, Kyle Arnold, Leslie Maddox, John Arnold, Jessica Arnold, Lane Arnold, Danielle Arnold, Kelsey Arnold, Caitlin Arnold, Emma Mansell, Libby Mansell, and Sarah Mansell; and 14 great grandchildren, Caleb Langgin, Joshua Langgin, Christian Brown, Brendan Brown, Melanie Brown, Lily McRorey, Jack McRorey, Morgan McRorey, Colbie McRorey, Zachary Arnold, Emma Suppes, Michael Suppes, Kayton Arnold, and Gage Maddox.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jonathan Arnold Brown, and a great grandson, Jack Christopher McRorey.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Polley Funeral Home, 5951 East Highway 10, Excelsior Springs, MO. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Pisgah Baptist Church, 112 Pisgah Drive, Excelsior Springs, MO.

Pall bearers will be Greg Arnold, John Arnold, Kyle Arnold, Matthew Brown, Lane Arnold, and Caleb Langgin.
