Sarah Anderson
Visitation for Sarah J. "Sally'' (Nixon) Anderson, 85, will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash. Service is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Davenport-Edwall United Methodist Church in Edwall, Wash. Burial will follow at Edwall Cemetery.
A former longtime Edwall resident, Mrs. Anderson died Thursday. She was born in Walla Walla. In 1937 she received a bachelor of science degree in pre-medicine from Washington State College. During World War II she was a Red Cross first aid instructor.
Mrs. Anderson received a master's degree in education in 1963 from Whitworth College. She taught at Edwall Elementary School, Salk Junior High and Ferris, Shadle Park and Rogers high schools. Mrs. Anderson later was the story lady at the Edwall Library. She retired in 1999.
She and her husband, Vern, recently moved back to Spokane. She was a member of the Central Church in Walla Walla and the Order of Eastern Star in Davenport. She also was a member of the Edwall Senior Citizens, the American Association of University Women, the Retired Teachers Association and the National Education Association.
Mrs. Anderson served as the secretary for the Sullivan Park Assisted Living Citizens Committee.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years; two daughters, Arlene Anderson of Spokane and Carol Paul of Edwall; a son, Stewart Anderson of East Wenatchee; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Edwall Public Library, the Davenport-Edwall United Methodist Church, Edwall Fire and Rescue, the Anderson Scholarship Fund in care of the Edwall Lions Club, Edwall, WA 99008 or the Nixon Scholarship Fund, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
