"Anderson, Andrew (1835-1909) arrived in Eastside Township in the spring of 1893 from Stillwater, MN. Andrew was a widower with 2 children. His eldest child, Bertina (the future Mrs. Peter Sehlin) was 19 years old and remained in Stillwater with an aunt and uncle to finish her teachers training school. Young Oscar was 14 years of age and accompanied his father. They settled on 40 acres of land in Section 12.

Andrew was a builder by trade and shortly after arriving here, got the contract to build the Opstead School house that was to be finished by October 1, 1893. His daughter, Bertina Anderson, taught at the new school in the 1894-1895 term, in the 1897 spring term and again in the 1898-1899 school term.

Andrew also built the house that they lived in, but the year that it was built is unknown. The house still stands……."
