APPALACHIA –Everette "Jim" Amburgey, 60, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at his home, after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Dante, Va., had lived in Castlewood and was a resident of Appalachia for the past 13 years.
He had been a surveyor/engineer for the with
the Clinchfield Coal Co. for a number of years and he was a mining engineer with Jericol Mining, with 14 years service.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was a member of Thee Church in Appalachia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everette M. and Grace (Alderson) Amburgey; and a brother, Gary Fred Amburgey.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda Aistrop Amburgey; three daughters, Suzanne King and husband, Brad, of York, S.C., Michelle Fannon and husband, Bill, of Appalachia and Becky Dover and husband, Shane, of Hickory Grove, S.C.; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Dotson and husband, Dudley, of Lebanon, Faye Woods and Carol Hall and husband, Curt, all of Castlewood, and Sue Gibson and husband, Ronnie, of Dante, Va.; one brother, Jerry Amburgey and wife, Rose, of Midland, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in the Holding Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Duke Barker and the Rev. Ricky Oakes officiating.
Burial will follow in the American Legion Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stevie Woods,
Tom Amburgey, David Gibson, Shane Hall, Kevin Slemp and Jimmy Pitts. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Foley and George Aistrop.
Holding Funeral Home is in charge.
