Jerry Neil Amburgey, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family in Midland, Texas.

Jerry was born in Dante, Va., in 1938, to Everette and Grace Amburgey. He married Rose Nell Hall Branson, his wife of 58 years, in 1961.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 - 1960, retired from Clinchfield Coal, where he proudly represented UMWA Local 1477, and retired from Montgomery Trucking in Odessa, Texas.

He and Rose spent many happy years traveling the country and had visited every state in the U.S., nine countries in Europe, Mexico and Canada. He made friends all along the way, as Jerry never met a stranger and found great enjoyment in listening to the stories of those he met. He was passionate about his family history and enjoyed learning about who they were, where they came from, and in passing those stories down to the next generations.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; two daughters, Donna Turner and husband, James of Midland, Texas, and Teresa Woolum and husband, Billy, of Milton, Fla.; three sisters, Dorothy Dotson, Faye Woods, and Patricia Gibson; 14 much loved grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, who brightened his days in the last years of his life; and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents; three sons, Don, Tom, and John Andrew; his brothers, Jim and Fred Amburgey; and his sister, Carol Hall. A memorial service will be scheduled in Castlewood, Virginia at a date and time to be announced.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staffs of West Texas VA Health Care System in Big Spring, Texas, Hospice of Midland, Nurses Unlimited, and Midland Memorial Hospital, for all the care and support they provided to Jerry and his family during these last months. HAPPY TRAILS, PAPAW.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
