Death Takes C.Y. Allison; Rites Today
~ Blacksburg, Jan. 30 - C. Yates Allison, Sr., 74, retired law enforcement officer, died Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.B. Moore, of Blacksburg.
~ He had been in declining health for several years, but his death came unexpectedly.
~ Mr. Allison, who was born and reared in Blacksburg, served for many years as a Cherokee county rural policeman and for a number of years he was chief of the rural officers in Union county. He served as a mill constable at Gaffney for several years. He retired some tme ago on account of the state of his health.
~ Funeral services will be conducted at the local First Baptist church, of which he was a member, at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon by the pastor, the Rev. T.L. Ulmer. Interment will be in the Blacksburg cemetery with the Craft Funeral Home, morticiains, in charge.
~ The body will lie in state at the church one hour before the funeral services.
~ Active pallbearers will be E.J., Ansel and Darvin Hardin, and C.A., James and Mattie Allison.
~ The honorary escort will include Dr. Leroy Cates, G.W. Bridges, J.G. Sapoch, Robert Putnam, B.S. Bonebreak, W.M. Moore, Dr. T.A. Campbell, Charles Cobb, Will Martin, Ware L. Killian, Meek Williams, J.H. Kinard, Jack Roberts and J. B. Quinn.
~ Mr. Allison is survived by the following children: Mrs. E.J. Hardin, Mrs. Ed Moore, and Otis Allison, of Blacksburg; Paul H. Allison, Mrs. Pansy Blackwood and Mrs. Lois Middlebrooks, of Union; Mrs. Ed Brooks, of Buffalo; Tracy H. Allison, of Columbia; Miss Flora Allison, of York; and C.Y. Allison, Jr., of Langley Field, Va. Thirty-five grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren are living. Mr. Allison's wife died at Gaffney about ten years ago.
~ One brother, J.M. Allison, of Atlanta, and the following sisters also survive; Mrs. U.K. Allen, of Caroleen, N.C., Mrs. P.H. McDaniel, of Greenville; and Mrs. Bessie Gunthary, of Athens, Ga.
