Joseph "Cowboy" Allen retired truck driver for Insurance Wrecking for more than 60 years, he died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. He was 85 and a resident of Baton Rouge.

Religious service at Israelite Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Burris Sr. Interment in Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemetery in Maringouin.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary A. "Sister" Cornelius and Elizabeth D. Whitfield; four sons, Bubba Culotta, Mike Culotta, Otis "Piggy" Allen and Patrick D. "Buster" Allen; two sisters, Ruby Allen, of Lottie, and Rosa Mealey, of Los Angeles; two brothers, Eli Allen, of Lottie, and Adam Simpson; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Milton Gaines Sr., Robert Oliver and LeRoy Mealey; and godson, Alvin L. Smith Sr.

Preceded in death by his wife, Viviana T. Allen; two sons, Joseph Allen Jr. and Jeffrey "Ike" Allen; mother, Louise L. Allen; father, Varice Allen; and three sisters, Inez Smith, Wilhemina Oliver and Lula Mae Gaines.

Honorary pallbearers are Eli Allen, Patrick Allen, Roderic Cornelius, Jeffrey Allen, Bubba Culotta, Mike Culotta, Otis Allen, Milton Gaines Sr., Robert Oliver, LeRoy Mealey and Alvin Smith.
