Anna Laura Alger Gower
June 10, 1924 ~ July 31, 2011
Hometown: Cedar City, UT

Anna Laura Alger Gower, Age 87, was born June 10, 1924 and passed away on July 31, 2011 at her home in Cedar City, UT.

My daughter is helping me write this, if you are reading it then I have gone to live with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I will join my sweetheart husband Kenneth Gower who preceded me in death after only 38 short, but wonderful years of marriage.

At age 18, I went to Beauty School in Ogden, UT., where I had a great time, I graduated a year later and immediately went to work at several different shops. I loved doing hair and met several of my good friends while working. I made many quilts and afghans and loved sharing them with my kids, grandkids and great grandkids. I enjoyed bowling and spent many seasons on a league. Relaxing with a good book or a puzzle was one of my favorite past times.

Kenneth and I built a cabin at Duck Creek in 1962. We loved having a place the family could gather and enjoy the mountains. After Kenneth passed away, I had the opportunity to travel much of the world with my sisters, brothers and their spouses.
I was an active member of the LDS Church and had many callings throughout the years.

I was born in St. George, UT., to Alva Don and Pearl Barlocker Alger. I was the third of eight children. I am preceded in death by my husband, mom and dad, brothers: Arlo and Sheldon (Dudley), and sisters: Alvetta Rhodes, Donna Wood and Dora Gower. I am survived by sons: Brad (Karen), Kenny (Dawna) and daughter Becky (Kent) Bradshaw. Eleven grandkids and thirty-two great grandkids, who I adored. My sister Sara Lou and brother Gerald-(Giggs) (Julie). Many nieces and nephews and my faithful and beautiful cat Jasmine.

My family and I wish to thank Iron County Home Health for their many years of caring for me, especially Marie, Brenda, Debbie and Jacee. Also Hospice Alliance for the love and concern they showed me in my last weeks, especially FayLynn and Ashley.

As Anna's children, we would like to express our gratitude to our mother for raising us in a loving home. She was honest, compassionate and always put others first. Thanks mom for allowing us to take care of you. We hope you know how much that experience taught us. We love you and will miss you, but never, never will forget you.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Cedar City 4th Ward located at 500 West 400 North in Cedar City, UT.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 from 6:00-7:00 pm at Southern Utah Mortuary located at 190 North 300 West in Cedar City. On Thursday, August 4, 2011 the viewing will be held at the Cedar City 4th ward from 9:30-10:30 am.
