Mr. David Akins, age 60, died on Tuesday October 27, 2015 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility following a brief illness.

The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1973 graduate of Statesboro High School.

David worked with several companies and in 1988 he began his employment with the Statesboro Telephone Company and was currently employed with its successor, Frontier Communications as a telephone technician. David was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where as a young man he served as an acolyte. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. David was a member of the Bulloch County Wildlife Association and a past member of the Portal Hunting Club.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Stuck Akins and Paul Datus Akins, Sr. and a brother, John Floyd Akins.

Surviving are his wife Judy Kelley Akins; a step son, Brandon Glover; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul Akins, Jr. and Diane and Bill and Beth Akins all of Statesboro; his mother-in-law, Nancy Kelley Wilson of Statesboro and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Kim Kelley of Dalton. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.

Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Thursday in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Joan Killian and Elder Randy Waters officiating.

Interment will be in the Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Glover, Steve Durden, Richard Cannon, Wendell Akins, Johnny Deal, Wayne Durden, Alan Tyson and Keith Howard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees of Statesboro Telephone Company and Frontier Communications, past and present.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2953 Mallard Pond Road, Statesboro, Ga. 30461 or Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Ga. 30459.
